  • WHY A PHOSPHATE FREE BUILDER

    Nutrient pollution is one of world´s environmental problems. Although nitrogen and phosphorus are part of aquatic ecosystems, too much of them can cause eutrophication, so the fertility of such an ecosystem increases as the amount of organic material that can be broken down into nutrients increases, causing algae and aquatic plants growth faster than what the ecosystem can handle, affecting quality of water, food resources. This is not only related to aquatic life problems. The algal blooms produce elevated toxins and bacterial growth, that can make man sick if in contact with polluted water, also in ground water used as drinking water, even at low levels.

    America has cultural eutrophication. Man allows excessive amount of nitrogen and phosphorus in sewage, detergent and fertilizers, and they end up in streams, rivers, lakes, bays and coastal waters, affecting the aquatic life oxygen levels to the point of fish illness and death of large number of fishes.

    This problem is not new, it came public in the late 1960s and early 1970s when lakes and rivers in US turned green because of the algae. Phosphates in laundry detergent was identified as part of the problem, and in the following years, several US states and some countries regulated the phosphate use. These regulations along with better sewage treatment, have reduced the among of phosphorous going into lakes and rivers not only in USA, but Europe and in recent years, in some developing countries in Latin America.

    Having identified the need of a phosphorous free builder, at an affordable price, LUOYANG QIHANG CHEMICAL INDUSTRIAL CO.,LTD started to manufacture the Active Poly Metasilicate and Modified Sodium Disilicate, as an alternative to sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) and zeolite 4A. The cost / benefit of use of our STPP replacement not only is related to environmental concerns, but also cost is lower than STPP market price, giving an a additional incentive to the detergent manufacturers to quit use of phosphate in their formulations.
